This is a memoir of wild connections. Oregon lumber. Family land. The people who built Patrick Lumber and the companies around it. Four generations of wood and ground, told as story, not brochure.
I wrote it the way we work. People first. Honesty and common sense. Every problem a solution in disguise. The wood knowledge sits in the grain of the stories: mills, species, handshakes, hard years, and the ones who stayed.
Cover art is a pine tree drawn by Isaac Sherwood Halsey in the Sierra Nevada foothills in the winter of 1850. Interior butterfly drawings by Nanda Ramos. Charcoal by Gabe Babcock. Isaac’s 1849–1850 diary is at The Bancroft Library and online at https://isaac.halsey.co/.
